The Harari National League (HNL) will start its 7th general assembly, or Sosem, in the City of Harar on Sunday, November 30th. The general assembly will be known as “Limay Sosem”.

Limay in the Harari language has several meanings, such as development, sustainability, and victory. The name was chosen to emphasize the HNL's progressive vision, dedication to the development of the Harari National Regional State, commitment to establish good governance, and the advancement of the people of Harar.

The general assembly will feature discussions covering the development activities that are currently taking place, along with an assessment of steps towards achieving good governance within the HNRS. The party’s performance over the last 3 years will be evaluated, and its shortcomings analyzed. Furthermore, the action plans for the next 2 years in regards to socioeconomic development goals will be decided at the meeting.

Other activities during the assembly include the amendment of HNL’s by-laws and programs as needed. Also, new officers will be elected for the position of central committee, audit and inspection.

The meeting will be attended by the 450 voting party members from various regions of Ethiopia, such as Harar, Dire Dawa, Addis Ababa, Haramaya, Gursum, Fadis, Asebe Tefari, Jigjiga, Combolcha, and Dedere, along with non-voting participants and invited guests. These participants include 300 HNL members and supporters, as well as elders, investors, and invited dignitaries from the leadership of the Federal governing party.

Participants are mandated to wear traditional Harari clothing during the opening ceremony of the assembly. The assembly is expected to last a few days, depending on how long the discussions take to amend the by-laws. Local and national media will cover the much-anticipated event.
